There is something new living in there. Mom got a call earlier today from a friend. Her friend has 4 dogs that don't like cats at all and have done some not so nice things to them. Mom's friend also has a neighbor that has a lot of cats that never get taken care of and who has the attitude that "Oh well, who cares if something happens to the cats. They can be replaced." Anyway, Mom's friend is afraid for the kitties so she puts a trap in her yard a couple of times a month and last night, she caught this. She called Mom to see if she could find a home for her. We are not sure if she is one of the neighbor's kitties or not, and Mom and her friend don't care.

She is a very friendly cat. When Mom went to pick her up, she kept following Mom around and rubbing all over her. She also wanted Mom to sit next to her while she ate. She doesn't like being held, but loves pets. Mom thinks that she would soon be comfortable being held with some patience. Oh, and she is a calico, not a tortie, because she has a small white patch of fur on her chest and another on her chin.

Mom says she has to live in the bathroom until she can be tested for yuckies (which should be on Monday). We will keep you posted on what happens.

Anyway, we are going to have a name the cat contest. Mom will make the person who submits the name we choose a snuggle in the color(s) of their choice. Please submit your submissions in the comments of this post. Mom would like to pick a winning name before the New Kitty (NK) goes to the V-E-T on Monday.

That was so nice of you guys to take care of her!

Oh, she is sweet! We'd love to help name her so we'll think on it and offer suggestions, although she kind of does look like a Sally to us too.

She's very beautiful! What does Camie think? Is she very curious? Does she lay down on the floor with her snoot under the door? I think your new sisfur looks like a Daphne.

SHE IS BEAUTIFUL!!! Your Mommy is a wonderful human to rescue her! Actually she is both a calico and a tortie!

A calico cat is a tortoiseshell expressing an additional genetic condition known as piebalding. A piebald animal has patches of white (i.e., unpigmented) skin.

All calicos are tortoiseshell (since they carry both black and red), but not all tortoiseshells are calicos (since they requires a significant amount of white in the fur and patching rather than mottling of the colors).

And so ends my lesson on calicos and torties for the day! :)

Well heck....I forgot to leave out name choice: I love the name Adelaide!

I think she should be named either Reese, full name being Reese's Peanut Butter Cup or Tagalong in honor of the delicious peanut butter cookies the Girl Scouts sell.

Of course, they do not call them Tagalongs anymore, but that's the name my human pet knows them by...

How about Farla? Such a sweet Calico. Mommy had a calico named Sparky for 14 years. I hope she tests okay.

Oh wow. The Woman says that kitty looks just like the kitty she had when she was little. Ataturk. Yeah, the Grandpa named her... But it was a good name since there were no other kitties around named Ataturk.

Ataturk had attitude. One time she snuck outta the house and they found her chasing a German Shepard down the street. Heh. My kind of kitty.

How very nice of your Mom to help out her friend. That is horrible the way the neighbors don't care if their cats get hurt...

Ok, we're back. We all gave it some thought and here are some more ideas:

Cory: How about Lily?
Ellie: How about Katya/Katarina?
Jonesie: How about Josie?
Cecilia: How about Callista?
Nigel: How about Violet?
Madison: How about Serena?
Bennette: How about Marissa?
Grete: How about Penelope?
Ginger: Whatever her name is, she will be loved!

Ah, she's a beauty! I like the name Clover. Partly because it's almost St. Patrick's day and partly because there was a tortie at the shelter named Clover.

What a beautiful little torti.
Your mommy is such a sweet lady, but you will be paid back. Torties are just the furry best cats.
I am not good with names at all, you will pick the right one.
Keep us posted.

Ohhhhh - somehow we missed that! She is CUTE! What a lucky kitty to have walked in that trap and come to you!
But don't on counting to hold her!
I LOVE to be petted, I sit on anybody the moment they sit or lay down (the maid calls me "velcro cat" sometimes) but I will not tolerate to be picked up and held. EVER!
Let us know when you have the name contest!
