Snuggly Saturday

Tiki and Tavi snuggling together on our Gizzy Quilt. This was a couple of days ago when we had some sun. It has been raining since yesterday afternoon. Mom is happy because we really need the rain. Last year was our 2nd driest in history and we only missed out on driest by about 1/8th of an inch. It was funny because we went from our 2nd wettest year (July of 2005-June of 2006) to our 2nd driest (July of 2006 to July of 2007).

Mom here ~ some kitties had some questions about how long Cody has been in the family. We got him when he was a kitten - about 7 weeks old, and that was about 7 years ago (I can't remember his exact gotcha year). He was at a Petsmart rescue center, and we didn't find out until later that he, his siblings and his mom were found in the field outside of the store. He was originally my mom's cat, but I inherited him along with Camie. He has never liked being held, or touched, and has only gotten worse since my mom died. He would occasionally let her pet him when he was zoned out suckling and kneading his blanket. He seems to get all of the companionship he needs from the other animals, but I keep trying. I am sooooo glad I discovered temptations from many of you in the cat blogosphere. It has allowed him to start trusting me a little bit. Every time he takes one step closer, it is cause for celebration. I have been able to scratch his cheek for about a second or two, but only while he was actually eating a temptation from my fingers. This time he actually looked at me and allowed me to scratch for about 5 seconds ~ a huge step for him. I will back off for a week and try again. That is how I have gained his trust over the past year. He still runs when anyone comes near him and it isn't his idea, but we are taking baby steps forward. I doubt he will ever be comfortable with being touched much, but I will keep on trying. Thanks for all your concern for him.

Sadie is living proof dat even a feral can become frendly. Her mom was a feral cat and she was borned outside and even had two litters of kittens outside afore she finally got trapped. She was almost a year old and was a wild, ferocious cat. It took all of mom's pashents to get her to become da little love dat she is now. She will sleep on the bed (as long as you don't touch her) and lays on the floor waiting for mom to brush her and loves to sit on the back of mom's chair rubbing her head all over mom's head fur.

Wow! Cody is even more loyal and picky than I am. It only took me 6 months--but then I hadn't had a major loss of a human--I mean I did but I had always had a nice human.

You have a Gizzy quilt! It's beautiful:)

Tell yer people to hang in there with Cody 'coz it sounds as though he will come around a lot sooner than she thinks. I, Mozart was somewhat similar from being Out for such a long time in my kitten months, but I am very affectionable now:) I am glad to see my People is snuggling Gonzo a lot too, so that he will grow up liking peoples, and not just me.

I am embarrassed to say I was the growly one at the V.E.T. today-Gonzo just went to sleep after his 'xam while I yowled so long and loud they must have heard me across the street(:

Ah, the benefits of early training!

LC says: When I was come to the cave, The Big Thing wanted we to be Skeeter's friend, and I did. So I nefer got used to The Big Thing picking me up, or sittin in his lap, or those Bein things like that.

I'm grettin more used to him as I get older, though. Well, I've been around him fer 14 years. I like him stritchin we from a slight distance, though. But I won't efer sit on his lap or anything like that.

You are a wonderful bean and we think your approach with Cody is great! You will succeed! Anastasia was hissing at the humans for several month before she let them near her. And at first she would only allow them to touch her shortly when she was eating. But in her last months she actually sometimes cam over to the maid and snuggled with here! Keep us posted!
And com on over and see the interior of our fabulous Antarctica cruise ship and meet the crew!
